About the Honey

Most importantly, it's always local! KowBee honey is from local beekeepers who maintain natural practices.  We have many suppliers as much of our honey comes from amateur apiarists (the fancy word for beekeepers).  These folks are passionate about the environment, our food sources, and our community.  Put another way, they embody the KowBee mission. Our honey is local to Chicago, raw, unheated and chemical free.  Unfortunately, we cannot say that our honey is organic, as we cannot control where our KowBees collect from, but we do practice chemical-free beekeeping.  Our bees live all over the city and our honey tastes of it.  It is raw, wildflower honey with possible hues of linden, white sweet clover, basswood, aster, goldenrod, and, maybe, whatever is in your garden.

And then there are the benefits.  According to the Farmer’s Almanac (we are talking farms… urban farms!), 6 Amazing Health Benefits of Local, Raw Honey (https://www.farmersalmanac.com/local-raw-honey-22439):

  1. Make your own healthy, rehydrating sports drink.

  2. Soothe a minor sunburn.

  3. Healing salve for minor burns, cuts, or scrapes.

  4. Eating unfiltered, unheated, raw honey produced within your area (50-mile radius or less) is like receiving a natural anti-allergy shot!

  5. Cough suppressant

  6. Promote relaxation and restful sleep
